Dance with the Fear – Wednesday Wisdom

Have you ever just felt like your fear is too much for you to move forward? Sometimes it can feel overwhelming, choking you from the inside out… I know that feeling all too well. This past year has been one of the major victories and great falls for me, and for some reason, the falls seem to jump out more than any victory. Sometimes my mind just won’t let go of all the thoughts swarming around in my mind as they threaten to break me down.

Ben’s quote above hit me, hard. What wisdom, when we can rediscover who we are in the midst of the fear and chaos we can learn to grow beyond it. Dance with the fear though, could I even dare to try? Dancing? Something so joyful and fluid… it just doesn’t fit with the stress and difficulty of fearfulness. What if I took those steps and chose to face what scares me most head-on and run with it instead of letting it hold me back?

These past few weeks we’ve been working hard with the release of our new website and brand at the start of the new year. While we were building our brand it was hard to not build expectations that we would get more views to our blog, more inquiries, and more business through it (and let’s be real, it was all going to happen immediately, right?). Expectations can be the enemy of joy, the enemy of success.

As small business owners, we know this dilemma like no one else. Trying to face your fears and pursue dreams that at times can be so unsure. Also, the decision to go full-time or wait. There are so many choices as creatives that can make us believe we should quit, stay where we are, or go back to what feels safe. With my expectations built up, it’s been hard to not be disappointed when the blog views are lower than before the launch, even though I’m blogging 4-5 days a week now. It’s hard to not be disappointed and overcome with fearful thoughts as the inquiries aren’t rolling in as often as I would like them to.

My challenge to myself, and to you today is to just try moving forward even when you’re terrified. Don’t let the fear get in your way and cause you to run from what God is leading you to. Who knows what beautiful things will develop from those single moments of courage when you think you can’t possibly move forward?  Take the chance on yourself you’ve been waiting on for far too long. Create your goals and chase them down. Let’s go dancing and stop running from our future.

Much love,

Katie

P.S. If by some random chance Ben Rector reads this, my husband and I love you! We’ve been to all your Birmingham shows 🙂 We even made the trip to Chattanooga to see you on our honeymoon! You’re pretty cool. Let’s take photos..!
