Wednesday Wisdom: Working Hard Even When It Hurts

By: Katie

As photographers, creatives, and people in general with bigger dreams than we can make happen on our own it can be insanely difficult to swallow the fact that we might not be where we want to be. The dream, well “the dream,” is typically to go full-time pursuing your passion and enjoying life to the fullest while making enough money to care for yourself and your family. Sounds amazing, I know! It’s one of our big dreams too! However, our current reality is that Alec and I both work other jobs. He enjoys his immensely as it’s in a creative field, but mine aren’t so glamorous.

I go to work at 5 a.m. most mornings to work as a receptionist at a gym and then head off to nanny three crazy, fun, and at times supremely annoying kiddos. As our business has taken off more, it has been thrilling but in a sense it has been even more stressful. It’s like I’m working 3 jobs at 70 hours a week and it’s exhausting. There are days I come home with tears in my eyes because I feel like I can’t keep up this circus of a schedule, but then I’m reminded of the rush of pure joy I get behind the camera.

“Do what you have to do until you can do what you want to do.”

The fact is, where we’re at might not be all photography and glamour, but it’s good none-the-less. We are where we’re supposed to be and it’s allowing us to live comfortably, invest our photography income on new gear and our awesome new website, and we’re able to give and go out and have fun. Isn’t that pretty dreamy on it’s own? Haha! We’re building our future how we want it to be and climbing the ladder to our dreams and it’s SO WORTH IT.

Where you are in your business is good. The job(s) you are working to support that dream and your family, that’s amazing. You are amazing and what you’re doing is beautiful. So here’s to you and right where you are in the journey! Keep working hard even when it hurts.

XOXO,

Katie
