10 Things You Didn’t Know About Alec

Hey there!

I’m Alec Dixon, one half of Katie & Alec Photography. I shoot joy-filled weddings across the south with my wife and love every minute of it. Most of our blogs are about our amazing bride & grooms, their wedding days, and how to prep for your own big day. It’s not often that we break away from that, so you might not have learned much about Katie and me. So, today I’m remedying that with  10 things you may not know about me.

It’s always a joy to talk to couples and find out the many things that we have in common. For example, when I’m not taking your photos, you’ll most likely find me at the bowling alley. That’s one of my favorite hobbies. Is that something that we have in common? Let’s see what else you can relate to.

1. I can swim as fast as I can run. As I grew up, I tried many sports, and swimming competitively came the easiest to me. Even as a little kid I was incredibly fast and my coaches loved me. I stuck with it for years, because I won just about every race.
2. I type 68 words per minute. I spend a lot of time on the computer, because of the many emails & blogs that I type. The average person types at 39 wpm. So what are your skills that help your job easier?
3. Aprendiendo Español. My most recent hobby is learning Spanish. It really helped me when one of our brides had family coming from Latin America, and their family portraits were much easier when I didn’t need a translator.
4. I’m a magician. It’s a hobby I started in middle school and I never quit. I was teased a lot, but I kept going. This helped teach me not to give up on what you love even if someone teases you for it. Now it helps Katie & I wow our clients and their guests!
5. I love a good documentary. I really enjoy hearing and telling a great story, this makes documentaries one of my favorite genres. They are great when you enjoy learning more about history.
6. I’ve taken my camera to many concerts with permission. When I’m not at a wedding, I’ve been asked to shoot tons of concerts. It’s one of my favorite passions most people don’t know about. My backstage passes have given me some great stories when spending time with the performers.
7. I’m 6’4”. I’m much taller than most people, which is a common gene in my family. This has it’s pros and cons, but it makes for some silly-looking photos of Katie & me. She looks up to me a lot.
8. I’ve lived in 7 different houses. My family moved quite often when I was growing up. My parents were constantly renovating houses and selling them, so we never stayed in one house for too long. What I now call ‘home’ is the first house that Katie & I live in, which is incredibly cute.
9. “I’ll have the burger.” No matter where we go to eat, I’ll order the burger. It is definitely my favorite meal.
10. You’ll catch me listening to Dad’s music. I just love classic rock. My parents have taken me with them to see bands like Journey, Van Halen, Def Leppard, and many more. What’s great about this is that it gives me something else that I have in common with my parents. Rock N’ Roll!
