YAY! You just got engaged. That heavy new rock on your finger keeps catching your eye and you have to remind yourself you really are getting married!!! That’s seriously the best feeling and you can’t wait for your wedding day to get here!
As you’re starting the planning process you’ve probably found every wedding website imaginable and started a to-do list. You have a florist to pick, venue to nail down, and you’ve got to get creative in asking your girls to be by your side! It’s so much to do, let alone keeping up with your normal life!!
It’s not all about the wedding day though. It’s about the treasure that is Marriage. It’s a beautiful, holy union, and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. You’ve waited your whole life for this one person, and here they are, willing to promise you the rest of their life and love. Your wedding isn’t just a big party, it’s not just the “best day of your life”… it’s a celebration of real, intimate, sacrificial love. It’s the start of the best years of your life. The start of your very own family with the person you’ll spend forever with… WOW!!
So searching for the perfect photographer to document it all becomes one of the top things on your to-do list. It’s a HUGE deal. The photos you get of your wedding day will be your first family heirlooms. One day you’ll be showing your children and grandchildren those photos! No pressure or anything! 😉
Picking a photographer may not seem like a difficult task but there are four seriously important things to consider when selecting a photographer.
Make Sure You LOVE Their Style
Hands down this is a huge start! Your wedding photos will be with you as long as you live which means this should be a huge priority. Before you even start searching for a photographer look at what style you like: light & airy, dark & moody, classic film? Think about what you will like in 5 years, 15 years, even 50 years from now?!
We strive with our style to keep it as bright, joyful & authentic as possible. Our goal is for your photos to look bright and classic from start to finish so they’ll stand the test of time. Check out our most recent weddings and it will give you a good understanding of what your day could look like. Is that what you think of when you picture your future wedding photos? Perfect! If not, that’s okay, too! Everyone has a different style they love.
Make Sure You LOVE Them
Yes, we’re 100% serious. This might sound obvious or unimportant, but believe us it’s actually one of the most important things you can consider. As photographers and people we want all of our couples to like us. While this is the goal we won’t clique with every couple we meet. This may be the case for you as you consider different photographers, so take your time picking.
Let’s be totally honest here. Your photographers will be with you ALL. DAY. LONG. You will see them more than you’ll see anyone else on your wedding day, even your spouse! You want to have someone/people you are okay spending the biggest day of your life with. Plus, being comfortable with your photographers will radically help the photos you get! When you’re comfortable with us, you’ll be more comfortable when we’re photographing you & that will show through making your photos more true to you!
Make Sure They Fit Your Wedding Day Needs
Before you book make sure you’re getting everything you need. If an album is the most important thing to you, make sure your photographer offers the best of the best in albums. Do you want to be able to print wherever you want, see if they offer a print release! You’re investing so much money and emotion into this so you’ll want to make sure you’re getting what matters most to you, not just what fits most everyone else.
Make Sure You BOTH Agree
Make sure both you & your fiance are involved in the decision making process because it affects them as much as it does you. These photos will be with you as long as you BOTH shall live so you should both love them! Ask what they’re looking for in your wedding photos, what really matters most to them, and set a budget together.
If you’re considering us, we suggest that you both give our website a thorough look together and for both of you to come to our initial meeting. It will help you be on the same page and have all the information you need. Also, don’t be afraid to ask potential photographers questions! Experienced photographers will be willing and able to answer your questions and help make you feel more at ease!
