Life Lately

Our Home Design: Part 2 Living Spaces

We love watching home makeover or building shows like Fixer Upper or Extreme Home Makeover. There is just something so fascinating about seeing a home come to life! The process, the tough choices, and that crazy amazing end result. We can’t get enough! So, we decided to share our own home building story. So, from the day we chose to build to the final product we’re sharing it right here on the blog:

#2 Our Home Design Part 1

#3 Our Home Design Part 2

#4 Why We Chose New Construction

#5 We Broke Ground

#6 Big Changes

#7 Drywall is Up

#8 One Month Away

Last month we shared the first part of our home design all about our kitchen!! We’re just so thrilled to finally be living in a space of our own that feels like us. That’s perhaps been our favorite part of the process, getting to deigning it specifically for our tastes. We just know this will be the perfect spot to keep growing our lives & business!!

Now that ground has been broken all we can do is wait until move in day. Really, we’ll be totally hands off form here on out other than checking in. While we wait we wanted to share all about the rest of the house from the bathrooms to the living spaces. We’re just SO freaking excited to be sharing it with you!

Upstairs

Honestly, there wasn’t a ton to pick for this space. The entire upstairs will be carpeted & the paint will match the downstairs. One extra we did for this space was we added a bonus room for Alec to have a “man cave” even though he hates calling it that. He wanted his own living space. Let’s be real it’s really so he can watch football in peace haha! We did choose to add oak treads to the stairs over carpeting it because long-term it will hold up better. The chances of having to replace the carpet within the next few years were high, so it made sense to choose to do this now. Plus, its totally gorgeous!

Downstairs

We are SO excited about the downstairs!! Like, oh my goodness we cannot wait! We made some choices here we definitely didn’t anticipate… For one, we ended up adding a fireplace which we never thought we would. It just looked SO good in the model home AND it is shiplapped all the way to the ceiling!! We’ll have a 2 story living room so it will be quite the statement! Ours will be the traditional white unlike this photo. Chip & Jo would be so proud haha.

We mixed & matched here because we love a classic silver but the fans looked so much better dark. We also will have a dark grey door so it’ll match our outdoor lighting.

Another choice we weren’t expecting was choosing a lighter hardwood color. We’ve always liked darker colors for flooring. When we saw the light color in the model home we thought twice. Then they told us that lighter colors don’t show scratches or dirt as easily and we were sold on the Allspice!

Bathrooms

We kept these pretty similar for the sake of keeping our home design cohesive. Our goal was to keep the spaces light & airy with functional designs. We chose an easy to clean colored cabinets & quartz counter-tops. One thing we did splurge on was making the second bathroom nicer by upgrading the shower. Every step of the way we’ve kept re-sale on the front of our mind so if we ever do sell we’re in a good position. The look of the subway tile shower is so much prettier than a plastic plug-in shower. It also matched our shower so again we kept it cohesive. The floors are perhaps our favorite part with a gorgeous marble-like look.

Now, be prepared there were a ton of choices in the bathrooms alone. Honestly, we could have done a full post just on those haha! We are thankful we had so many options though.

These stone grey beauties will match our kitchen island which we LOVE. Can’t wait to see them in person.

This one wasn’t what we planned on choosing. We actually loved the one to the left of it but all together that would have been too much marble. We ended up going with just a classic white!

Believe it or not this is about half of the options. There were SO many, but again we love a classic clean one.

The hardest part still is waiting to see it all come to life. Really, its gone so fast but we’re ready to see it as one complete space. We can’t wait until we finally have photos of our actual home to share with you. Once it is finished you better believe we’ll be sharing all the pretty! If you’re interested in following along as we finish building we regularly share over on our Instagram! We’d love to be able to share with you!

Blessings,

Katie & Alec

On top of that, they made sure all of the poses were natural and felt comfortable to us. It was such a fun, relaxed experience with them and my husband!”
