We love stories! Every couple has their own & one of our favorite parts about being wedding photographers is meeting with newly engaged couples and hearing theirs. The excitement of it just gets us. We can’t get enough! And at the end of it, our couples always ask, “What about you?” So, we decided to share our story too. First, we shared our love story and now it’s time for a new one… From our first photos to where we are now here’s our business story!
Our Business Journey Part 1: High-School
Our Business Journey Part 2: College
Graduation came, Summer faded to Fall & Alec’s college journey began. He was pursuing a degree in Fine Art and his love for photography only deepened. During his freshman year he became the photography editor for his college newspaper, and even became the lead photographer for his college ministry. He kept taking gigs on the side and growing his business.
By the time his sophomore year of college had come around he was about to meet the love of his life, Katie. Actually, one of the first things he said during their introduction was, “I’m actually a photographer,” in an attempt to impress her. Looking back on that moment you could say it definitely worked 😉
She fell fast & hard for that tall, dark & handsome photographer. So, it made total sense for him to keep his camera on him all the time. Photography was always a part of the relationship. Katie always thought that was just Alec’s thing though. She never considered herself creative and initially pushed off all attempts for him to teach her. Her goal was to be a supportive girlfriend and just help him grow his business idea.
Then one day in 2012 Alec had booked his first solo wedding. Talk about being scared out of his mind! Alec was nervous and knew he’d need help so Katie became his assistant. It took months, but she was finally convinced to help/ When it was finally the wedding day things went smooth, but Katie left and actually told Alec, “I’ll never do that again.” Weddings to her were too big of a deal to possibly mess them up. That was too much pressure!
It was back to letting Alec be the creative photographer while she focused on her college degree in health. Little did she know that just a year later they’d be booking several weddings and she’d fall totally in love with wedding photography…
