“Over 168,000 drink combinations,” the sign read outside the Sonic drive-in. To Alec, that sounded like an exciting challenge. By the time I met him when we were in college, Alec already had a list on his phone of combinations he had tried. Everything from a pickle slush to his favorite the real fruit strawberry slush made the list. Happy hour made it easier to afford on our college budget, and who can say no to half-price slushes??
When we started shooting weddings together, we didn’t realize how hot those Alabama days really were. After an especially hot day of 95+ degree weather and 8+ hours on our feet, there was nothing besides a slush that could satisfy us. We rolled up, ready for refreshment, and right then a tradition started.
It’s not something we intended to become such a trademark for us, but here we are. After probably 7/10 weddings we make sure to go to a Sonic (even if we’re out of town) and grab a drink as our reward for a long day. People ask us what our favorite drinks are at Sonic, how often we go, and all the time they say how fun it is. It really cracks us up how much people notice little things like this!
For the record, Katie loves a diet cherry lime-aid with LOTS of real cherries & Alec’s go-to is a classic strawberry slush (occasionally with nerds). If we get really crazy we’ll add corn-dogs or a hot fudge sunday to the mix 😉
It’s been fun to share our silly obsession, and now we even have couples who often send us gift cards or give them to us on our way out from a wedding. It’s so sweet and thoughtful!! We’re thankful for people who understand our love of these sweet drinks!
Also, we’re thankful for the people who saw us taking these photos and didn’t yell at us. We actually had people tell us we were adorable & that this was such a cute idea. For two easily embarrassed souls that came as a huge relief. Also, to the Trussville Sonic crew working that day, thanks for laughing with us and letting us take these!
