Time and time again, we have couples asking for location suggestions for their engagement session, wedding photos, or even new photographers asking for location ideas. We’ve shot all over this Magic City and have an inside scoop into some of the most popular, iconic Birmingham locations. So, we figured it was time to create a list of the top 14 most incredible photo locations in Birmingham!!
Railroad Park– There is so much to see in one space! Between the Birmingham city skyline to the lush grassy fields and beautiful ponds, this is a definite Birmingham staple for any photos you want! We recommend you aim for photos in the non-winter months for the best-looking fields there.
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens– A classic spot with tons of variety from its famous rose garden, Japanese garden, and greenhouse. You can’t go wrong with the Birmingham Botanical Gardens for your photo session!! It is free to go into the gardens, but as a heads up, they do not allow props or animals of any kind on the premises.
The Bridges Between Northside & Southside– If you’re looking for a stunning view of the city in downtown Birmingham look no further!! This is so gorgeous, urban, and easy to get to! There are also several of them to choose from.
Birmingham’s White Walls- There are thankfully, multiple of them! Since white is such a clean, fresh, and neutral color, it’s a popular one. Easy ones to find are near Morris Avenue, Near Bromberg’s in Mountain Brook, and Railroad Park. These are great for Christmas card photos, save-the-dates, etc because it’s so easy to put text over a clean white background.
The Rainbow Wall- Located right off of Morris Avenue, this spot is so unique and fun! We feel like it’s the perfect spot for senior photos, influencer pics, and so much more. It’s a huge wall that runs parallel behind Morris so it is super easy to find.
Rotary Trail– Just moments away from both Railroad Park & the bridges between North & Southside this is a prime location. Nothing says “Birmingham” like the Magic City sign at Rotary Trail!! Be prepared, you will need to step into the road/turn lane to get photos here.
Oak Mountain State Park– Only 30 minutes outside of the city this is the perfect option if you’re looking for a more natural or rugged location. It’s got everything from waterfalls to fields and scenic outlooks. Be prepared, though; there is a fee to get in!
***NOW CLOSED**** Sadly, we regret having to say that Birmingham has officially stopped allowing photos at their public parking decks. They will call the cops on people for using this location, and we want to do our part and share the news.
Birmingham Parking Decks– Pick one, anyone, and you’ll find a different, more gorgeous view of the city. Public parking decks are the way to go if you want urban, unique Birmingham photo locations! Be sure to check in with the city, though, as now they require you to do so before your shoot.
The “It’s Nice to Have You In Birmingham” Sign– Do we really need to say much about this one? Located on the wall of John’s City Diner this Birmingham mural is a huge photo destination! Our recommendation is to go right before sunset or early in the morning so it’s nice & shaded for you. The weekends are also the best as there is a parking lot directly in front of it for a local office building.
Vulcan Park & Museum- This is one of the most gorgeous overlooks in the entire Birmingham area. It’s free to go to the base, and there is a small fee to go to the top. It really is worth going up if you haven’t ever before, and it’s such a great spot for photos!
The Birmingham Federal Courthouse– Classic, elegant, and oh-so stunning if you’re looking for timeless photos in Birmingham, here’s your place! Bonus points: It’s also so close to the light tunnels & Railroad Park if you’re looking to use multiple locations!
Linn Park- Close to so many spots right in the heart of downtown Birmingham, Linn Park offers a natural feel of the big city. It’s also got a gorgeous fountain that can add a ton of visual interest to your photos! Be warned, though, this is a huge spot for the homeless population & you will probably be asked for money.
Jefferson County Probate Court- Yes, we’re talking about the spot where the DMV and licensing department are. It’s where most of the city goes to get their marriage licenses. The outside is actually gorgeous with the gold accents and clean-looking marble. Plus, it is right next to Linn Park, which makes it so convenient. It also has an extra traffic light and a wide walkway, which makes for cute photos too!
Highland Park- This is a huge area in Birmingham that is full of adorable pocket parks. It has tons of gorgeous spots hidden all throughout it just waiting to be explored. It’s a refreshing area to use because many photographers don’t take advantage of its beauty.
