There’s something truly special about celebrating love in the city where you first met. Stephania and Hiro’s engagement session in downtown Birmingham was the perfect reflection of their story, full of laughter, warmth, and the kind of joy that lights up a city block!
Stephania and Hiro’s journey began thanks to a little matchmaking magic from their mutual friend (and now Maid of Honor!), Alex. Back when Stephania was in undergrad at UAB and Hiro had just graduated, they found themselves in the same friend group, sharing memories and building a friendship that quietly grew into something more. After a couple of years, their connection deepened, and it became clear to everyone around them that they were meant to be together.
Their proposal story is as sweet as their relationship. Hiro, ever the planner, wanted their families to be a part of this milestone. He orchestrated a beautiful evening at The Grand Hotel in Fairhope, Alabama, ensuring that both of their families could attend, even coordinating travel for people from Japan, Illinois, and New York. As the sun set over the piers, Stephania made her way to find Hiro waiting, surrounded by their loved ones, ready to ask her to spend forever with him.
For their engagement session, we wandered through downtown Birmingham, chasing that golden light and getting to know them better. Stephania and Hiro’s easy laughter and genuine connection made photographing them a joy. Whether they were strolling hand-in-hand down historic streets or sharing a quiet moment away from the bustle, their love for each other—and their excitement for what’s ahead—was so evident.
We’re already counting down the days until their wedding next May at the Florentine Building, one of Birmingham’s most timeless venues. If their engagement session is any indication, their wedding day will be filled with heartfelt moments, family, and a whole lot of joy.
