KAP Behind the Scenes

Our Why Behind Our Business

Alec and I have two very different backgrounds and families, and overall we are two very different people. Alec grew up in an amazingly supportive family with parents who love one another. His parents met over 25 years ago and were married within 3 months of meeting in a small and intimate courthouse wedding and they’ve stuck together through it all: kids, starting a successful business from the ground up, and now as their kids are grown. I on the other hand come from a divorced family with a less than perfect track record with fighting, illness, and drama. My parent’s divorce was messy and in the end it left me with a bad taste for relationships and marriage.

When Alec and I met I had resolved to never get married, and then I found the Lord and that all changed in an instant. The moment I met Alec I knew I was going to marry him and it made no sense to me then! Our relationship was by no means picture perfect and I struggled throughout the entirety of our first 2 years dating with trust, suspicion, and hurts from my past. We actually ended up breaking up because we knew I needed time to heal, and during this time I sought out counseling. It changed my life and changed our relationship for the better and in so many ways I finally was able to start life over. We were engaged in 2013, married the following September, and so far we have loved our marriage. It isn’t easy, but it’s incredibly worth it.

I tell you all of this to get to the reason why we pursue wedding photography, why we invest our lives in the beginning of others marriages. We have realized over the entirety of our relationship that weddings are about so much more than flowers and cake, and the same goes for wedding photography. Love and marriage aren’t easy, but it’s worth it to create a legacy and to show the world what God has designed it for. Our goal for every wedding and engagement we shoot is to find out what makes each couple’s love story special, find out what is more important to them than anything and to capture those moments so they last forever. That first kiss as a man and wife, the joy of a groom having a ring on his finger for the first time ever, the tears as he sees the beauty of his bride… Each moment elicits emotions, memories, and so much love. We want to capture those moments forever, to create a moment frozen in time that will create a legacy of love and bless generations to come.

Marriage is meant to be so much more than just a wedding day, a shallow relationship, and something to serve one person. Marriage the way we see it, is about two people becoming one, coming together for something bigger than themselves. When two people come together based on love, mutual sacrifice, and faith they have the power to change the world. This is what weddings are about. Vowing to one another that you will commit to this crazy journey through together, no matter what may come your way. Promising to show the world what true love really is. Capturing these moments when a couple’s commitment truly begins is so important, and to us it is more than an honor! This is why we do what we do.

Blessings,

Katie
