For almost all of of us, our engagement photos are the very first time we’ve ever “modeled” for a camera. And that’s terrifying. So, how can you prepare??
As a Katie & Alec couple there is no need to fear! We’re here to help you through it. We want you to know exactly what you can expect for your session.
First off, we’ll set up a date with you and send you our engagement session style guide. This will walk you through planning your outfits, picking your location, and SO much more! It’s really your step-by-step guide to an amazing session. It will help you know you are as prepared as possible beforehand.
Pick Your Outfits
We always suggest going dressy! You only get formal photos so many times in your life. Life is short, buy the tulle skirt or fancy sequin dress & wear it!! Get a bouquet made or invest in those shoes you’ve always wanted. Nicer clothing makes a huge difference in front of the camera.
Also, think about your photo location. Some outfits look better in a downtown setting & others in a garden. You want it to all feel cohesive! Since you get 2 outfit choices you can mix it up. Don’t be afraid to get 2 totally different outfits to show off different sides of your personalities.
Pick Your Location
When you’re thinking through your locations (you’ll get 2) don’t be scared! Pick locations that feel like you. If possible, we highly encourage you to think about special spots for you. An example is, if Alec & I were to pick we’re probably choose Vulcan because Alec proposed there. Maybe your family owns land, or perhaps you met on your college campus.
Picking locations you love adds value to your images. If you can’t think of somewhere that’s totally okay. Just email us & we’ll give you tons of ideas. Just think if you want something urban, natural, classic or non-traditional.
Learning to Pose
First things first, on your session date we’ll meet up and start off simple. We’ll walk you through how to pose so you’ll know what you’re doing. We’ll show you where to put your hands, how to not look awkward, and make sure you feel confident. It’s so much easier & more fun than it sounds, so no need to feel nervous. After you learn this it’s all fun from here!
We’ll be there throughout your session to make sure you look & feel your best. If you trust us and allow the system to work, we promise you’ll get so much more out of your session than you think.
Our number one suggestion is to be yourselves. These are your photos and we want them to feel like they represent you well. Don’t be afraid to be spontaneous & to include more of your personality. After all, this is a celebration of your engagement! Live it up & let yourselves have fun!
