Lani and Jakob’s engagement session at The Southerly House in Dothan, Alabama, was pure joy from beginning to end! These two are as sweet as they come, and we already can’t wait to celebrate their wedding here next year. The Southern charm of The Southerly House paired perfectly with their classic, timeless style and contagious laughter—it couldn’t have been a more perfect setting for this season of their lives.
Their story began when they met on a mission trip called GenSend Boston, where they spent eight weeks serving and sharing the Gospel together. Though sparks were flying even then, the timing wasn’t right. But when Jakob came to visit Lani a few months later, everything fell into place—and now, they’re planning forever!
Jakob’s proposal story is one for the books. During one of Lani’s best friend’s birthday weekends, he planned a surprise proposal at Red Barn in Auburn—the same spot where they once had their first picnic. With the help of friends and family, he got down on one knee by the lake and asked her to marry him. Of course, she said yes!
For their engagement session, we wandered around the property at The Southerly House, taking in the romantic white fences, blooming gardens, and cozy porch steps. Lani looked radiant in both her white satin dress and her pink floral one—each outfit perfectly reflecting her joyful personality. Jakob couldn’t stop smiling at her the entire time, and it’s easy to see why!
We love that The Southerly House exudes warm Southern hospitality, making every photo feel timeless and heartfelt. It’s going to be the most beautiful backdrop for their wedding day, and we’re already counting down until we get to capture it all over again!
Congratulations, Lani and Jakob! Your engagement session was everything we hoped it would be and more—we’re so excited to celebrate your love story right back here next year in Dothan!
Blessings,
Katie & Alec
