For Brides

Should You Do Sunset Photos?

While wedding planning, you’ll be faced with a lot of important decisions. More than that, you’ll have to set a timeline for the day and decide what will get priority with every precious moment of your wedding day. That’s a lot to handle, and we want to make sure you’re informed when it comes to your photography timeline. Better yet, if you’re a Katie & Alec couple we’ll help you create your photography timeline.

Before you get to that step, we want you to know why sunset photos are important and what makes them different from other photos on your wedding day.

Sunset photos are something we as your photographers LOVE. Why? The light is just magical that time of day! Here are a few reasons why:

-It makes for gorgeous skin tones and will help prevent harsh shadows that can make you look aged or like you have bags under your eyes. This is especially true if your venue doesn’t have lots of shade!

-It creates a pretty gorgeous glow in photos that’s so dreamy.

-It’s cooler in the Southern heat than when we normally shoot.

-We can shoot in spots that may have been too bright earlier in the day. For instance, this open field in the next photo was WAY too bright when we did photos at 2:00 pm but at 7:00 on their wedding day, it was nothing short of stunning!

-You’ll get more candid photos! There’s nothing better for a natural reaction than the genuine joy of those first few moments as husband-&-wife.

-It’s also nice because this normally happens (unless you’re having a Winter wedding) after your ceremony. That means you’ll get a brief period of time to be together before you face your excited crowd of loved ones.

-If you’re moving venues you can get photos at a different location. This means more variety and including special places in your photos.

-You’ll get more photos of the two of you. At the end of the day, those are the most important photos. They’re your first family heirlooms and we believe in getting as many as you can.

Sunset photos don’t have to be an hour-long or even 30 minutes long. Of course, if you have that time and want to take it, please, do it!! You will not regret it!! Take whatever time you can and put it towards it. Even a few minutes means more photos and that means more life-long memories for you.

If you’re trying to find a balance between the different parts of your day, you’re not alone. As we said, it’s all about you setting priorities and picking what’s most important to you. For some people that’s family photos, for others that’s making time for a first look with their Dad. Sit down with your fiance and figure out what those priorities look like for you. We can say, it’s worth sacrificing a few candid photos of people dancing for precious moments between you and your spouse!

In the end, we can’t recommend taking the time for sunset photos! There is a reason photographers everywhere recommend it and we can promise you won’t regret it.

Blessings,

Katie & Alec
