Chattanooga in a Day

By: Katie

Alec and I both love traveling and try to plan something every 6 months or so, even if it’s just to Atlanta so we can visit Ikea and H&M (which I think should happen even more frequently ;)).  For our one year anniversary we spent a week in Savannah, Georgia, and we visit Panama City Beach at least once a year. One of the most special places is where we spent out honeymoon, Chattanooga. Well lately I’ve had the travel bug and I was telling our friend and Birmingham makeup artist, Hannah Holsomback, that I would just love to go somewhere, anywhere, and soon!

This past Saturday Alec surprised me with an impromptu trip to my favorite city ever, Chattanooga! Yep, that’s right, we went on a spur of the moment trip with no planning just for dinner and the chance to walk around this gorgeous city. He heard me talking to Hannah and got the idea the night before! We both love the city and I feel like I need to explain why because not everyone understands it’s charm (which I will do with terrible iphone photos because I never anticipated sharing them haha)!! Here’s 5 of our favorite things about Chattanooga:

  1. It’s a walking city. Everywhere you go in Chattanooga you can walk, and even if that’s not you’re style, you can rent a bike from their bike share program and hit the town that way! chattanooga
  2. It’s got a great music scene! This is exactly why we chose it for our honeymoon! We went for 4 days and saw 3 amazing concerts in that time. Whether you’re going to somewhere like Track 29 or hitting up a smaller venue, you won’t want to miss out on this city’s music. We saw Phil Wickham, Judah & the Lion (before they blew up at Sloss Fest), and Ben Rector and it was amazing!chattanooga
  3. The food. Chattanooga has so many amazing eateries that we don’t even know where to begin. Urban Stack has amazing local and organic meals that will satisfy your hunger, Tony’s has delicious Italian food that you won’t want to miss, and we never forget to head to Clumpie’s Ice Creamery for dessert!

excuse the awful iphone quality, I’ve got a measly old 5c 😉

  4. The art. Everywhere you go in Chattanooga you can find hidden gardens and public sculptures. You can even head to one of their two gorgeous art museums right off the water!

They’ve got the most beautiful buildings, like this one with the British flag door, sculptures, walking paths, paintings, and glass art everywhere!

  5. You’ll never be bored. If these past 4 reasons weren’t enough you could always head to Rock City, Ruby Falls, take a boat tour, hit up the Tennessee Aquarium, or the Chattanooga Zoo, and this is just to name a few other things you could do!

On our honeymoon we stumbled upon their annual Oktoberfest and it was amazing!!!

Coolidge Park has an indoor carousel, walking trains, bike paths, and it’s right behind Clumpie’s Ice Cream on the water!

Don’t take our word for it though, we highly suggest you check it out if you’re looking for a fun day trip or even just somewhere to spend a long weekend! You won’t regret it!

XOXO,

Katie
