After photographing over 300 weddings, we have noticed something:
Every bride wants beautiful photos, but underneath that, almost every bride shares the same fears.
- “What if we miss important moments?”
- “What if we look awkward?”
- “What if we choose the wrong photographer?”
- “What if something goes wrong?”
If you’ve had these thoughts, you’re in good company. In fact, most of our couples tell us these exact things before we ever pick up a camera.
The good news? These fears are completely normal—and with the right photographer, they don’t have to become your reality.

“What if we miss important moments?”
Your wedding day only happens once. There are no do-overs for your dad seeing you in your dress for the first time or your grandmother tearing up during your vows. Having an experienced wedding photography team is essential.
After photographing more than 300 weddings, we’ve learned how to anticipate moments before they happen:
The nervous laugh before the first look.
The tears during a parent dance.
The hug from a grandparent that you’ll treasure forever.
Because the truth is, some of the most meaningful photos are the ones you didn’t even realize were happening.
Specific questions to ask: How many weddings have you shot? Do you have an experienced second shooter? What does a wedding day timeline look like for you?
As a husband-and-wife team, we’re also both lead photographers. While Katie is documenting the girls getting ready, Alec is with the guys, capturing their side of the story. We can be in two places at once, ensuring the moments that matter aren’t missed.

“What if we look awkward in photos?”
This might surprise you: About 90% of our couples tell us before their engagement session, “We’re awkward in front of the camera.” And almost every single time, they leave saying, “That was actually so much fun.”
You don’t need modeling experience. You don’t need to know what to do with your hands. You just need someone who knows how to help you feel comfortable. Every photographer goes about this differently.
Specific questions to ask: What is their approach for putting you at ease? Do they offer help with posing? How hands-on are they with posing?
One of the things our couples love most about working with a husband-and-wife team is that we can demonstrate poses for you. Plus, our grooms often appreciate having Alec there—someone who understands exactly how they’re feeling and can help them relax.
As one of our couples shared:
“They transformed our awkwardness into truly romantic and wonderful photos that are completely natural and authentic.”
Our goal isn’t to force you into stiff poses; it’s to help you feel so comfortable that your personalities naturally shine through.

“What if something goes wrong?”
If there’s one thing we’ve learned after hundreds of weddings, it’s this:
Something unexpected almost always happens.
Sometimes it rains.
Sometimes it’s a delayed timeline.
Sometimes a bride gets sick.
And sometimes it’s all of the above.
Specific questions to ask: How do you handle rain, timeline issues, awkward family relationships, etc. You can even ask them for specific examples.
One of our brides had both rain and illness affect her wedding day. Rather than adding stress, we reassured her that we’d make it work. We later returned to the venue for an after-session so she could have every portrait she’d dreamed of.
She wrote:
“Katie and Alec were our biggest hype team at our wedding and also the people who could help make a potentially stressful day a little less stressful.”
Another wedding called for heavy rain. Because we arrived early and adjusted the timeline, we completed the portraits before the downpour started. We even had umbrellas ready for the bridal party.
Actually, Katie has an entire emergency kit that includes everything from a tiny sewing kit to Band-Aids and a crochet hook for buttoning dresses. It’s wild how prepared she is!
Experience doesn’t mean everything goes perfectly; it means knowing how to pivot when things don’t.
“What if we hire the wrong photographer?”
This is one of the biggest decisions you’ll make during wedding planning. Unfortunately, we often see couples hire a friend with a nice camera or someone who doesn’t specialize in weddings. They may be talented photographers, but weddings are different.
It’s a lot like hiring an attorney. Your aunt might be an amazing tax lawyer, but if you need help with contracts, you’ll want someone who specializes in that area. Wedding photography is the same.
An experienced wedding photographer knows:
- When moments are about to happen
- How to manage timelines
- How to navigate family dynamics
- How to work under pressure
- How to stay calm when plans change
Because beautiful photos aren’t just about taking pictures: they’re about protecting memories.
Specific questions to ask: How many weddings have you shot as the lead photographer? Are you licensed and insured?

The Experience We Want Every Couple to Have
We want you to:
✔ Feel completely comfortable.

✔ Be fully present on your wedding day.
✔ Know that every meaningful moment is being documented.

As one of our brides said:
“You will run into many vendors who treat you like just another couple getting married—Katie and Alec will not do that. They will treat you like you’re the reason they got into the wedding industry.”
And honestly, that’s exactly how we want every couple to feel.
