3 Ways We Got Our Time Back

Last year we found ourselves in a strange place. We had spread ourselves too thin. There we more things on our calendar than we could keep up with… that wasn’t even including editing, maintaining our house, and doing normal chores.

Being crazy, like we’ve discovered we are, we even decided to start building a home in the middle of wedding season. Yeah, it was all too much for us to be able to do it and all do it well. So, we needed something to change.

When we started researching ways to get our lives & time back we found 3 things that made a huge difference:

Grocery Pick-Up

When we first heard about this it felt weird. Katie actually likes grocery shopping and we didn’t think this would work. How could someone else pick our produce? Would we miss out on regular items? Finally, we gave it a try and it saves SO much time.

We realized it took about 1 and 1/2 hours for us to drive out there, pick our food, and get back home. Now all we do is order online, show up & someone puts the food in our car. 20 minutes, that’s all it takes us now! That saves us an hour every week where we can do more productive things. Maybe that doesn’t sound like much, but that adds up to over 2 full days (52+ hours) of shopping in a year.

Out Sourcing

This one is good whether or not you’re a creative. For us, we outsourced some of our workload. The things we had already automated, that we just didn’t need to be focusing on.

There are tons of things you can outsource: laundry, cleaning, yard work, you can even hire a personal shopper. We decided on what to do by thinking about what caused us the most stress & took up unnecessary energy. Cleaning ladies come once a month & 2 12 year-olds mow our yard now haha! What you choose will be unique to you.

Hiring Cleaning People

Hands down, this is the BEST decision we made last year. To be honest, we HATE cleaning. We do it because we have to but it drains our energy. So, we hired a cleaning crew to come do the basics every 2 weeks. Washing dishes, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, cleaning sinks/toilets, etc.

Nothing beats coming home to a clean house when you’ve done nothing. It’s fabulous and boosts our mental energy every time they come. For us, we would make this decision again & again!

Now, we know that these 3 things won’t be a perfect fit for everyone. Maybe cleaning is your outlet. All we want to do is encourage you that it’s totally okay to get things off your plate. You can’t and shouldn’t try to do everything. Other people can do the things that drain you of energy so you’re freed up to do what you love! The littlest bits of time you save will add up!

Blessings,

Katie & Alec
