We love stories! Every couple has their own & one of our favorite parts about being wedding photographers is meeting with newly engaged couples & hearing theirs. The joy of it. The freshness of it. The excitement of it. We can’t get enough! And at the end of it, our couples always ask, “What about you?” So, we decided to share our story too. From our college campus to building our dream home, here’s our story from “I noticed you” to “I do.”
Part 11: Our First Home
Katie & Alec eventually moved out of that little tiny apartment on Southside & into a rental in Homewood. For two years they lived in a little 1000 square foot home from the 40s. No insulation, old single pane windows, and gross tan walls they couldn’t change welcomed them home every night. It was a step up though from their roach-infested bachelor pad they lived in before.
Something you need to know about Katie & Alec is they are big savers. While all their friends were immediately buying little starter homes, they felt called to save. They didn’t want to waste their money moving into a home they didn’t love. It was worth it to them to live in a little, freezing home to save money. Every penny they had went straight into savings. They even cut out things like Katie getting hair-cuts & traveling to make it happen. Not to mention the 3 months they spent eating corn-dogs because they only cost 33 cents per meal…
As they saved, they dreamed of homes. Katie had built up a huge pinterest board, and both of them were on Zillow day after day. Nothing felt right, and they prayerfully waited for their dream home.
One day, in August of 2018, Alec found himself out in Trussville for a session. He went to meet his friends at their house which he’d never been to before. As he pulled into the idyllic little neighborhood with beachy-colored homes he just knew he had to call Katie. It wasn’t something he would normally do, so when she heard him say “I just found our neighborhood” she knew something was happening.
A week later, they made it out there together. It was everything Alec had said & so much more!! The neighborhood was just being built to, so there was the opportunity to build a home for their specific tastes. WOW!! As they perused the model home it just felt right. Maybe, just maybe, all that time they were saving would finally pay off!
Just a week later, after looking in some other areas nearby they signed their contract & began building their own home!! In March of 2019 they would move in & ever since it has been a dream come true! To say they’re thankful would be a huge understatement. It felt like God had answered their prayers with more than they ever knew to ask for. It was truly they perfect next step for their little family!
